BBC Weather, are you for Syrias?

Submitted by on March 22, 2013 – 10:01 amNo Comment

@BBCWeather has become the latest high-profile Twitter account to fall victim to hacking, this time apparently by Syria’s Assad Loyalists.

A chain of tweets, in turn political, anti-Semitic and comical, appeared on the weather-focused news feed before the BBC regained control of the account some hours later.

There’s been no formal word on the cause of the breach, but many news sources speculate that the hack is related to a series of phishing attack emails sent around the BBC earlier that day, requesting staff to enter passwords and email addresses. A security email has since been sent to all staff urging them to treat such future emails with caution.
