Retailers get ready, holiday shopping will account for a quarter of ecommerce this year

Submitted by on September 14, 2012 – 12:14 pm2 Comments

US retail ecommerce holiday sales will reach $54.5 billion in 2012, according to new eMarketer report, ‘Online Holiday Shopping Forecast and Trends.’

Excluding travel, the figures will account for a 16.8 percent increase in holiday ecommerce compared to 2011. This will be the fourth consecutive year that online holiday sales show growth in the mid-to-high teens, after dropping 8.2 percent during the recession in 2008.

eMarketer estimates online holiday sales to account for nearly a quarter (24.3 percent) of the $224.2 billion US retail ecommerce sales forecast for 2012.

Online retailers, are you ready?
