Social creative: Burton Snowboards sends out boarding call to Facebook fans
Burton Snowboards has launched a new campaign guaranteed to appeal to the adventurer in all of us. Every week from now until April they’re giving away a travel bag packed full of Burton gear, and over the duration of the campaign, three epic mystery trips, too.
Entirely hosted on the brand’s Facebook page, the Now Boarding contest-based campaign takes inspiration from the fearless travel culture associated with snowboarding, and has tapped into the psyche of snow worshipers perfectly.
The app is clean and streamlined, but retains cool appeal. Users are asked to pack their ‘bag’ with three items of their choosing – no easy task as there’s some excellent kit on the list, and then choose two friends to accompany them on their mystery trip, should they win it (not a compulsory option though, as indicated by the ‘No thanks, I’m a loner’ button). Hit submit and that’s it. A straightforward and engaging way to enter a pretty generous competition.
There are three mystery trips up for grabs, and fans are each given three bags to pack – that’s three chances of winning a monster holiday. To win a bag of awesome gear, users can pack up to two bags a day for a chance to win. See? Generous. And in the spirit of snowboarding, entrants must be willing to embrace spontaneity as winners will have to jet off with just a few days notice.
As a cool extra feature, each trip is unveiled through a series of videos featuring Burton’s own snowboarders, including John Jackson, Marko Grilc, Charles Reid and Mark Sollors, and each trip will be documented on the page after it’s taken place, with pics and clips from the lucky winners.
Now Boarding is an excellent campaign that really taps into snowboarding culture in a trendy and enticing way. The brand wins cool points for giving away such intriguing and epic prizes, the social aspect means that the company’s message is spread far and wide, and as fans are encouraged to directly interact with Burton’s gear, the campaign wins points for subliminal advertising, too. That’s gnarly, man.
