Samsung’s iPhone killer draws in angry Apple users through social media

The tech bloggers are buzzing this morning over Apple’s mysterious removal from its site of controversial videos that claim to prove all smart phones – not just the iPhone4 – drop calls. Why? There’s no explanation from Apple HQ. Could it have something to do with Samsung’s latest social media offensive forcing Apple’s hand?

Samsung’s offensive tactic – pushing its iPhone killer, the Galaxy S smart phone to disgruntled iPhone users by getting them to tell their horror stories – was a huge success, claims a new report by WaveMetrix. A whopping 70% of potential customers drawn to the Samsung Facebook and Twitter pages said they wanted to switch to Samsung’s Galaxy S and would be willing to bad mouth their current phone in the process. The Samsung team jumped on the opportunity to stick a finger in Apple’s eye, as can be seen from its Twitter posts to an angry iPhone user:

Over the weekend, in the mean time, Apple quietly removed videos from its website which compared iPhone reception to other phones and claimed the problem applied to all handsets. The buzz was already enough to humble even the biggest companies, but Samsung’s clever social media catch was a great way to capitalize on the bad talk, to separate itself from the pack and to simultaneously plug its own newly-released smart phone.
