How big brands can defend against Twitter phishing scam

The list of big-name victims to fall afoul of the latest Twitter phishing expedition is pretty impressive. They include some pretty vigilant Tweeters including journalists at the BBC and The Guardian, British MP Ed Milliband and the bank First Direct.

The trap is being set by fraudsters who send seemingly benign direct messages usually saying something like, “this you?” or “lol, this is funny.” More scalps are being ensnared in the trap thanks to third-party services like GroupTweet, says security specialist at Sophos.
