Lousy test scores? How’s your YouTube viral video?

Submitted by Social Media Influence on February 25, 2010 – 3:59 pm3 Comments

It wasn’t long ago that American students looking to get into their university of choice were most concerned with bombing their SAT scores. Now they’re worried about whether their video goes viral.

In a nod to the power of YouTube, Tufts University is accepting video applications alongside the written essay in the acceptance program. About 1,000 of the 15,000 applicants submitted videos, The New York Times reported. Some are surprisingly good. Our favorite, “Math Dances,”  has already had over 65,000 views.

Before you dismiss this as a hokey PR stunt for this distinguished New England institution of higher learning, consider that universities need to prepare the younger generations for how to take the job market by storm.

Grade point average? Check. References? Check? YouTube? Check.
