Twitter hits the 50 million mark

If there were any doubts left about Twitter’s being a social media force to reckon with, then maybe its 50 million tweets per day should dispel them. That’s an average of 600 tweets per second. Only Facebook, whose users update their status 60 million times a day, sees more action.

Royal Pingdom reported that in Jan. 2010 Twitter posted more than a billion tweets. And while nobody would want to vouch for the value of each tweet, there are certainly enough golden needles in that haystack to fuel a new gold rush.
