A blog policy for Whitehall?

It appears that way. The Times is reporting that in the embarrassing aftermath of the tell-all Civil Serf blog rising to the public attention, a strict blogging policy will be adopted for all government workers. Also, it will spell out whether the likes of Facebook and MySpace are off limits. Wise move by Whitehall.

The Times is calling it a "crackdown". That it is. But it’s also a sensible move in this age of workplace social networking, Twittering when you get the sack and snarky employee blogs. The Labour government has been pretty keen to promote civility in the blogosphere (remember Tessa Jowell’s open letter to bloggers a year ago?), a line that Civil Serf crossed repeatedly to the delight of those of us who wanted a glimpse of what is going (or is not) going on in the Brown government. A list of dos and don’ts was just a matter of time.
